"Autograph postcard signed to George R. Marek (1902-1987), an Austrian-born music writer and producer in New York. who had also worked as a translator for Mann in 1943. In 1947, Marek gave Mann an English edition of Goethe's Der Mann von fünfzig Jahren (The Man of Fifty) at a dinner party, for which Mann expresses his gratitude here: ‘Dear Dr. Marek, what a charming gift this fine edition of The Man of 50! Thank you so much! I hope you enjoyed your European trip. Isn't Switzerland a jewel? Best greetings! Thomas Mann’. - The front of the card shows Mann's villa on San Remo Drive."
