English pianist, teacher, writer, and composer Tobias Augustus Matthay (1858-1945), professor at the Royal Academy of Music from 1880-1925. In 1900 he founded his own piano school as a means of disseminating his influential theories of piano technique. Matthay orders two scores by César Franck and Debussy from Harold Reeves, London.
"If you still have the Cesar Franck Prélude, Choral et Fugue I should like to have it. ... You can also send me La Cathédrale engloutie, Debussy." - Mattay studierte an der Royal Academy of Music, wo er u. a. Schüler von William Sterndale Bennett war. Von 1876 bis 1925 wirkte er dort als Professor für Klavier. 1900 gründete er eine Musikschule, an der er eine eigene Klaviertechnik unterrichtete, die sich an physiologischen Vorgängen des Klavierspiels orientierte und die er in dem Buch The Act of Touch (1903) darstellte.
