Marcel Rubin (1905-1995), Austrian composer, studied with Franz Schmidt and Darius Milhaud. After the Nazi occupation of Austria 1938 Rubin - in double danger as Jew and communist - emigrated to France and later to Mexico. Rubin returned after the fall of the Nazi regime to Austria. 1949 the from a musical point of view conservative Rubin was cofounder of the "Österreichische Gesellschaft für Zeitgenössische Musik (ÖGZM = Austrian society for contemporary music)" opposing the avantguardistc IGNM (ISNM).
Marcel Rubin, österreichischer Komponist, Studium bei Franz Schmidt und Darius Milhaud, als Jude 1938 Emigration zuerst nach Frankreich, dann nach Mexiko. 1940 Beitritt zur Kommunistischen Partei Österreichs (in Marseille), 1969 Austritt aus Protest gegen die Niederschlagung des Prager Frühlings. Dem Neoklassizismus verbunden gründete Rubin mit anderen 1949 die "Österreichische Gesellschaft für Zeitgenössische Musik (ÖGZM)" als stilistisch konservative Gegenorganisation zur IGNM (Internationale Gesellschaft für Neue Musik). Zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, darunter der Große Österreichischer Staatspreis für Musik 1970.
